SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A 39-year-old Florida man officials say set fire to Michigan State Police patrol cars at the Sault Ste. Marie post and shot at the vehicles with a rifle has been released from the hospital and booked on those charges.

James Kamal Itani faces arson, assault with intent to murder, and possession of a firearm charges. Police allege that Itani set multiple cruisers on fire at the Sault post early in the morning on September 6. In addition, police say he hit the vehicles multiple times with shots from a rifle, but no officers were in the cruisers at the time.

Officers captured Itani the next day in a wooded area. He was shot and taken to McLaren Hospital in Petoskey where he recovered from his injuries. A motive has not been revealed.
