DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Car parts will be cheaper for select dealerships selling Stellantis repurposed parts in North America, and not just in Europe after a recent announcement.

Beginning this December, Stellantis with the help of a facet of the circular economy division, B-Parts, will come to Michigan via 10 to 15 dealerships in Michigan, which sell numerous car brands.  B-Parts brings salvaged parts from salvage yards and helps connect them with Stellantis’ group of dealerships selling salvaged and reinspected parts.

According to Stellantis, B-Parts is the sole e-commerce supplier of used parts for Stellantis networks, directly contributing to the expansion of the company’s 4R strategy – Reman, Repair, Reuse, and Recycle.

“The main objectives are to extend the product lifespan and to reduce waste to limit the environmental impact in terms of carbon footprint,” according to Stellantis officials.

Senior Vice President of Global Circular Economy at Stellantis, Alison Jones, also has addressed the company’s vision for the future of remanufacturing.

“Focus also on the EV products to follow the market trend and the Stellantis commitment set to sell 100 percent of EVs in Europe and 50 percent in the U.S. We already have in our range remanufactured EV batteries, but we have a strong development plan to launch more remanufactured EV components and even an EV service contract for customers at the end of the year,” she said in an interview

In addition to expanding the EV market, the company has been working to grow the number of materials that can be used in the 4R Strategy.

“We also need to focus on using new materials that we can reuse. Previously, we worked with percentages to determine the amount of material that could be reused or remanufactured,” Jones added, “The goal now is to achieve higher yields, both in terms of the total amount that can be remanufactured and within the remanufacturing process itself.”

Last June, the line of used car parts announced that it would be expanding its extended warranty period to 12 months for all parts, whereas before the coverage varied from three, six, or twelve months depending on the line.

“We know how important the warranty is for our customers, and we are aware that this is also a concern of many prospective clients, who are still skeptical about used parts,” said Manuel Araújo Monteiro and Luís Sousa Vieira, General Managers of B-Parts, “In this sense, we believe that the extension of the warranty period to 12 months will reinforce their confidence in purchasing on B-Parts, whatever their profile: individuals or professionals. This new service also represents a unique added value in the used parts market, which allows us to professionalize the European trade of reused products. At the same time, this service will allow us to close the warranty gap with original new parts.”

Within the last year, the company added Belgium, bringing the number of European suppliers to eight, some of which including: Portugal, Spain, Netherlands, Italy, and France.

“Our market opportunities are vast, and our economic model has proved itself, so in 2023 we will deploy it to other European and non-European countries, as well as to other continents. Our main challenges will be to adapt to new suppliers, logistics infrastructure and different currencies,” said Monteiro and Vieira previously.

Before adding North America, the Portugal based B-Parts company provided stock to more than 155 countries.  According to Jones, the service is expected to expand to the remainder of Michigan, and to Texas and New York in 2024.
