LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Labor Day is right around the corner, and that marks the unofficial end of summer. Between now and then, Michigan State Police troopers will have more eyes on the end of summer travel with its three-week initiative to promote safe driving.

The MSP is joining forces with county and municipal police agencies through September 4. Officers will focus on increased enforcement and be on the lookout for impaired drivers.

In 2002, Michigan saw 9,331 alcohol-involved crashes and 322 fatalities. Labor Day weekend is one of the deadliest weekends in Michigan when it comes to impaired-driving fatalities.
