LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – In a Tuesday press conference, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced the signing of a new Economic Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This memo is the precursor to “establish[ing] a Procurement Cooperation Council [which] will support an open dialogue on government procurement, improving transparency and engagement on government purchasing for businesses from both jurisdictions.”
“As we navigate global uncertainty, now is the time to strengthen, not weaken, our relationship,” Ford said. “And this agreement does just that. Once again, I want to thank Governor Whitmer for your great partnership, your great friendship.”

Under the new MOU, Ontario and Michigan will work together on electric vehicle adoption and related supply chains, agriculture and rural development, advanced technology, and alternative clean fuels, among other goals.
Following the announcement, Whitmer and Ford unveiled new hockey jerseys. Whitmer’s was blue with her name printed above the number, and Ford’s was red with the name of Robby Fabbri from the Detroit Red Wings on the back. The conference ended immediately after, plagued by technical difficulties, glitchy video, and distorted sound.
A recording of the twelve-minute conference is available on the Ontario Premier’s YouTube page.
