DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Matt Vierling’s double to right field in the eighth inning put the Detroit Tigers ahead, 3-2, as they held onto the win. Alex Lange earned his 15th save of the year with two strikeouts in the ninth inning as Brendan White earned his second win.
Akil Baddoo had two hits as Vierling recorded two hits. Kerry Carpenter also added one RBI on a walk as Detroit finished with only five hits. Both Baddoo and Vierling had doubles.

Matt Manning started the game going 5.2 innings for the no decision with three strikeouts.
Kansas City had a two-run fourth inning for the lead after three scoreless innings. Manning retired the first nine out of 10 batters of the game before back-to-back singles in the fourth for the two-run lead. Baddoo started the eighth with a double but then a pop out and a strikeout put the Tigers in a tight position to score. Riley Greene was then hit by the pitch and Spencer Torkelson walked to load the bases. KC brought in a new pitcher who walked Carpenter for the first run of the game to pull within one, 2-1. Vierling followed with a double to score both Torkelson and Carpenter for the 3-2 lead.
Jason Foley entered the eighth recording one strikeout as two runners were left on base. After Detroit went one-two-three in the ninth, Lange retired the side striking out the first two batters before a ground out as Detroit won their 42nd game.
The two teams will play again in Kansas City on Tuesday night at 8:10 p.m.
