That’s why Michigan’s Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has partnered with the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency to offer a calmer Fourth of July for combat veterans who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The DNR highlights 11 state parks that are far away from traditional municipal fireworks displays and enforces restrictions. The DNR only allows small novelty fireworks like fountains, sparklers and ground spinners within the parks. “Aerial fireworks” including Roman candles and bottle rockets are prohibited in all state parks.
