DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Spencer Torkelson collected two home runs and four RBI to lead the Detroit Tigers to an 8-5 win over AL West leader Texas. The win puts Detroit at 34-45 and splits the series with the Rangers winning two games apiece.
Torkelson, Matt Vierling (1 RBI), and Javier Baez (1 RBI) all had two hits as Detroit posted 11 hits overall. Jake Marisnick, Andy Ibanez, and Zack McKinstry also added one RBI in the game.

Texas took a 1-0 lead in the bottom off the first but Marisnick tied the game at one with a triple in the second. Marisnick then came in for the go ahead run on a Vierling single to center field for the 2-1 lead. A Texas home run tied the game at two in the fourth but Torkelson’s first of two home runs came in the fifth on a 394-foot shot to left field to go up, 3-2. Texas hit their second home run of the game in the sixth to tie it at three.
Ibanez put Detroit a head for good in the seventh with a RBI single making it, 4-3. A four-run eighth inning put the game away as the Tigers took a five-run lead. Mckinstry singled in a run for a two-run lead, 5-3, and then Torkelson’s second home run of the game went 356-feet to left field for three-runs and the 8-3 lead. Texas tried a late come back in the ninth adding two runs but couldn’t get any more as it ended, 8-5.
Detroit used seven pitchers in the game as Mason Englert earned the win on one inning of work moving to 4-2 on the year.
The Tigers travel to Colorado on Friday night for an 8:10 eastern standard time game vs. the Rockies.
