DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Pepsi is creating a proprietary cola-infused ketchup — better known as “Pepsi Colachup.” The new condiment will be available on the Fourth of July weekend, coming to four MLB stadiums including Yankee Stadium, Target Field, Chase Field, and Detroit’s own Comerica Park.

“The concept is both simple and creative,” said David Kamen, director of client experience for the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) Consulting, which teamed up with Pepsi to create the condiment. “The distinctive flavors and vibrant citrus blend of Pepsi enhances the bright and tangy characteristics of ketchup, offsetting the smokiness of the hot dog.”

Joey Chestnut, 15-time champion of the annual Nathan’s Famous hot dog eating contest, is joining the line-up for Pepsi’s new product. “People might be surprised, but outside of competitions I love eating hot dogs at a more leisurely pace,” he said, “and there’s no better way to eat a hot dog — steamed, grilled, or fried — than with a perfectly cool and crisp Pepsi.”

“It’s a whole new way to enjoy American classics!” Kamen said.

Michiganders can find the limited-edition sauce at a sampling cart in Section 139 of Comerica Park. Fans who can’t make it to the ballpark may miss out on the colachup, but throughout the holiday weekend, they can text “FREEPEPSI” to 81234 and upload their receipt showing the purchase of a hot dog with Pepsi to get the Pepsi comped.
