KEEWENAW PENINSULA, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – One Upper Peninsula community is seeing a major jump in tourism dollars.

According to a recent report, visitors to Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula are pumping millions into the remote community’s local economy.

An estimated 400,000 overnight visitors spent $140 million in Keweenaw County in 2022, marking a 35% spending increase over the previous year, with the number of visitors staying the same.

Lodging represented the largest spending category last year with visitors spending estimated $41 million, followed by food & beverage, transportation, retail and recreation.
