DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Tied at two, Arizona scored seven runs with a grand slam in the top of the seventh inning as they took the game, 11-6, over Detroit. It was the seventh straight loss for Detroit in June.

Michael Lorenzen started the game going 6.2 innings when he gave up four more runs in the seventh. He had three strikeout up until that point and only five hits with two earned runs before Arizona added four on him.

Detroit made a small comeback with a run in the bottom of the seventh and eighth and two in the ninth for six runs. Jake Rogers led the team with three hits with two home runs for two RBI. Javier Baez, Spencer Torkelson, and  Kerry Carpenter all had two hits. Baez recorded a home run for a RBI while Nick Maton added a RBI. Zack Short gave the Tigers two RBI on two hits.

“We did some good things late in the game, and it was good to see Jake and Javy get those homers. It’s hard to take many positives out of an 11-6 game, though,” said Tigers manager A.J. Hinch.

Arizona took a 2-0 lead through the first two innings. Short cut the lead to one in the second and then tied the game in the sixth on a sac fly to center for the second run. It was the top of seventh that opened up the game for Arizona with seven runs. Rogers homered in the seventh for the Tigers third run and then Maton singled in a run for the fourth run as Detroit was down six, 10-4. Arizona added one in the ninth but Rogers and Baez homered in the bottom of the ninth for two runs and a 11-6 final.

They will play Arizona on Saturday at 1:10 p.m. in the second game of the series.
