ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Less than a month after Shemy Schembechler, Bo Schembechler’s son, was hired for a recruiting position, he resigned due to racist activity on his Twitter account. He was hired on May 17 as a feel good hire for the Michigan football program brining back a tie to the Bo Schembechler era. A group of fans looked into Shemy’s account and found some problematic items on his Twitter account. Three days later, Schembechler resigned.
Schembechler had been vetted by a third-party human resoures company that Michigan hires to look into coaching hires. Michigan has since changed companies for social media vetting. Head coach Jim Harbaugh says, “I read the report myself. We have a company that vets that – social media – and they came back and (cleared him). We’ve got a new company doing that (now), but they’ve got to be better.”

Screen shots of Schembechler’s tweets were found within a day by fans and brought to light. Harbaugh says, “I’ll take responsibility for that. If somebody can find that in a day, then we have to be better ourselves.”
Harbaugh was disappointed in Schembechler’s tweets saying, “It’s disappointing. You know? I’ve known Shemy for a long time. But there are no sacred cows. It’s not who we are. It’s not us.”
Schembechler has since deactivated his Twitter account.
