DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Alex Lange earned his 10th save of the year on Wednesday night recording two strikeouts as Detroit took the final game of the series, 3-2. Will Vest improved to 2-0 going 1.2 innings for the win allowing no runs or hits with one strikeout. Both teams had 11 hits as Spencer Torkelson, Tyler Nevin, and Jake Marisnick all had two hits. Javier Baez, Jake Rogers, and Marisnick added one RBI each.

Marisnick commented after the game, “That was a fun one. The guys grinded out at-bats and the pitchers did a great job throwing strikes and keeping the game going.” He was acquired by Detroit on Tuesday night from the White Sox. He added, “It’s been a bit of a whirlwind. I had about an hour to get to the airport to get here.”

Detroit struck first in the third inning on a Baez fielder’s choice that brought in Zack McKinstry. Texas tied the game at one in the fourth but Detroit scored two in the sixth for a 3-1 lead. Rogers had a sac fly as Nick Mato name in. Nevin was the third run to come in on a Marisnick single. Texas then cut the lead to one, 3-2, in the seventh before Detroit’s pitching came through not allowing a run in the final two innings.

The Tigers next play on Friday, June 2, in Chicago against the White Sox at 8:10 p.m.
