DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Officials from the federal, state, and local government continued to accelerate towards electric vehicle (EV) technology this week with the announcement of the first binational EV corridor between the U.S. and Canada.

U.S. Transportation Secretary and current Michigan resident Pete Buttigieg, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, and Canadian Minister of Transport Omar Alghabra announced a new electric vehicle corridor that will stretch from Kalamazoo, Michigan, to Quebec City, Quebec. They said this corridor will feature DC fast chargers every 50 miles.

Gov. Whitmer touted “resources” coming to Michigan from the Infrastructure Law and “bold investments” Michigan auto companies are making in Michigan. She did not mention the pushback from three communities in Michigan which are up-in-arms about Chinese-backed companies being lured to Michigan with tax payer money. Gotion in Big Rapids is tied to the Chinese Communist Party and recently received the financial blessing of the Senate Appropriations Committee to finish building an EV plant there.

Ford is in partnership with CATL in Marshall, and a “Mega Site” with similar business goals is being eyed in Eagle Township.

In addition, Secretary Buttigieg stayed on point with his recent “climate change” talking points. “With historic investments in EV infrastructure from the Biden-Harris Administration and the Canadian government, we are creating a new generation of good-paying manufacturing jobs, making it possible for drivers everywhere to reap the benefits and savings of these vehicles while helping us fight climate change,” Buttigieg said.
