DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – The Detroit Pistons finished with the worst record in the NBA this season at 17-65 which was three games worse than both Houston and San Antonio at 22-60. With all that, though, all three teams have a 14 percent chance of getting the prized no. 1 pick on Tuesday night.

The fate/future of Detroit will take place in Chicago at the McCormick Place Convention Center at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time on ESPN. The data is saying that this is the most anticipated NBA Draft since LeBron James was taken by Cleveland in 2003.

The reason why it is so anticipated is because of super star phenom Victor Wembanyama from France. He stands at 7-foot-4 and is the top prospect in 20 years for the draft and currently is playing for the Metropolitans 92 in the French Betclic Elite league where he is averaging 21.8 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 3.1 blocks per game. The comparison in the NBA is a cross of Kevin Durant and Rudy Gobert with his shooting mechanics and the way he protects the rim on defense.

It will be very suspenseful for all the teams with the revealing of the order down to no. 1. NBA Deputy commissioner Mark Tatum will reveal the sealed envelopes announcing them in descending order. There are 14 pingpong balls that are dropped into the lottery machine with a league representative randomly selecting four balls, revealing a four-number combination. There are 1,001 possible combinations with over 1,000 of those combinations assigned to the 14 participants. If the same combination comes up twice for two teams, the result is discarded and another four-ball combination is drawn.

After the first our picks, the other teams will be ranked in inverse order based on win/loss record.

In the past three years, Detroit has amassed the no. 5 (2022), no. 1 (2021), and no. 7 (2020) picks. Last year they took Jaden Ivey at no. 5. The 2021 NBA Draft pick brought the no. 1 pick as they took Cade Cunningham from Oklahoma State. Killian Hayes was then the no. 7 pick in 2020.

Watch ESPN on Tuesday night to see if Detroit can land the no. 1 pick for the second time in three years.
