MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Officials are meeting on Mackinac Island to be proactive to a potential new problem involving ebikes.
Fire Chief Jason St. Onge met with business owners on Mackinac Island to warn them about the threat of electric bike battery fires and what they can do to reduce the threat to the iconic buildings there.

2022 saw two e-bike fires and an incident that burned a home and injured two firefighters.
Businesses and residents are encouraged to not charge ebikes indoors. The Grand Hotel has banned e-bike batteries and the Island House is in the process of doing the same. Motorized vehicles are banned on Mackinac but not motorized bicycles.
