MIDLAND, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A Midland County woman says she got more than she expected on her latest hike down the Pere Marquette Rail Trail.

Kate Buning says she was walking her dog along the trail when a pair of emus started following her. Eventually it turned into a chase. Buning says she threw rocks and sticks at the birds, she even managed to hit one with a small log, but that didn’t stop them from running after her.

Buning made it back to the road, and the birds broke-off their pursuit. Midland County Animal Control looked for the pair, but couldn’t find them. Buning says she never expected to see emus on the loose in Michigan.
