DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – The Tigers are underway playing the final game against the Baltimore Orioles today. On Saturday, Detroit mustered only two hits in the second game of the three game series with Baltimore as they lost, 5-1, in Maryland.
Joey Wentz went four innings giving up five earned runs and four strikeouts as he fell to 0-3 on the year.
“They took advantage of their big inning and we missed out on ours in the first,” said manager A.J. Hinch.
Javier Baez and Zach McKinstry both had a hit for Detroit as McKinstry’s was a home run for the lone score of the game.
Detroit had the bases loaded in the top of the first inning with one out, but Spencer Torkelson struck out swinging and then McKinstry lined out to end the threat. This was what Hinch was talking about as one hit in the first could have given the momentum to Detroit.
Baltimore then scored four runs in the third and one in the fourth for the 5-0 lead. McKinstry’s home run came in the seventh but was too little too late.
