MARQUETTE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Just days after Governor Gretchen Whitmer declared a state of emergency for Houghton and Gogebic Counties in the Western Upper Peninsula for flooding, Marquette County in the Central U.P. will follow in similar footsteps with a local state of emergency declaration.
The Marquette County Emergency Management office stated the reason for the declaration is tied to widespread damage caused by runoff of rapidly melting snow.

As the rain continued through Monday, the flooding prompted officials to close roads within Tildin and Ely Townships.
There is not a total damage cost yet for Marquette County, but the Emergency Management Coordinator for Marquette County, Brian Hummel, says it’s not a cheap fix.
