WARREN, Mich. (MIRS News) – District 13 Rep. Lori Stone (D-Warren) is on a list of candidates who have officially filed to run for Warren City Mayor, MIRS learned from the Warren City Clerk’s office on Friday.

Stone is one of five candidates who have put their name in the hat for the position, including incumbent Mayor James Fouts, who has been serving as Warren’s seventh mayor since 2007, and City Council President Patrick Green.

Fouts is also a former state House member, serving the 70th district starting in 1976.

If he is defeated by Stone, the three-term representative would leave the state House, effectively ending the new Democratic majority in the House and the Democrat-held trifecta between the House, Senate and Governor’s office.

Stone has already put together a campaign page, and her campaign kickoff was listed as Jan. 28.

She touted her legislative accomplishments on the page, including three Public Acts and chairing the Education Caucus. Stone has also begun the process of fundraising, with several posts on her Facebook page encouraging the support of individual and grassroots donors.

Ahead of the April 25th filing deadline, three other candidates have also officially filed. That list includes Macomb County Commissioner Michelle NARD and attorney Ronald PAPANDREA.

A judge ruled that Fouts was eligible to run again in Ronald Papandrea v. Warren Election Commission after Warren amended mayoral term limits in 2020.

In addition to Stone announcing a mayoral run, District 25 Rep. Kevin Coleman (D-Westland) also previously announced he would be running for Westland’s mayoral position.

He is facing off against incumbent Mayor Michael Londeau, who was sworn in January 2023 as Westland’s ninth mayor, and Ali Awadi, Executive Director of One Ummah International, as of now.
