DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – An early 3-0 lead for Detroit turned into an ugly 9-3 loss in Toronto on Tuesday. Nick Maton had a three-run home run in the second inning to put Detroit up, 3-0. Matt Manning went six innings giving up for runs for the loss with three strikeouts.

Manning had to leave the sixth inning after he broke a bone in his foot when he was hit with a comebacker. He was seen in a boot after the game and commented, “It’s a freak accident, can’t do anything about it. I’m trying to think maybe I’ll give it a week off, see how it feels and get back out there. I mean, it’s just foot.”

Detroit’s pitching gave up 10 hits and nine runs in the game with Manning and relief pitcher Mason Englert who had four strikeouts. Manager A.J. Hinch added about Toronto’s offense, “It’s what they do. They have a potent lineup.”

Spencer Torkelson had two of Detroit’s five hits in the game as Maton recorded three RBI with his home run.

Toronto earned a run in  the second and fourth taking a 4-3 lead in the fifth with two runs. Englert then gave up five runs in the eighth inning as Toronto opened up their offense for the 9-3 win.

Detroit has now lost five games in a row and will face the Blue Jays on Wednesday.
