DETROIT, Mich. (Michigan News Source)- Just as it looked like the game would head to overtime, Jake Walman fired a laser shot from the left side of the ice that sailed just below the top bar for the win, 3-2, over Carolina. It was Detroit’s 33rd win of the year as they gave Carolina just their 18th loss.
“It was a go-for-broke kind of play. He (Andrew Copp) knew there was not much time left, so he made a really good pass. Good screen on it. Just a good play by him,” said Walman.

Dominik Kubalik collected his 20th goal of the year in just under a minute into the game (0:59) to make it 1-0. In the second period, Carolina had two goals in five minutes to take the lead, 2-1, at 42 seconds and 4:18. Dylan Larkin, though, tied the game at two at 7:26. After almost 32 minutes of scoreless play, Walman netted the game winner with 3.2 seconds left.
Alex Nedeljkovic was in goal stopping 31 shots on 33 attempts.
Head coach Derek Lalonde said, “It’s a good win for us playing an elite team like that, especially an elite team that’s that disciplined in their play.”
Detroit travels to Winnipeg on Friday night for their next game.
