GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Happy Cat Café in Grand Rapids is expanding after 5 years of operation and nearly 700 adoptions. The cat room will be expanded by about 30% to accommodate more cats and customers.
“We have big plans to update and enhance our space, including new furniture, color schemes, soon-to-be-expanded play areas, and an upgraded café area,” the café announced on GoFundMe. “These improvements will not only benefit out cats, but they will also create a more comfortable and enjoyable experience for our visitors and staff.”

Once the renovations are complete, visitors will be able to pay by the hour ($13) to play with and pet the cats. They can also order specialty drinks and snacks to enjoy during their time in the café, earning an additional 15 minutes with their fuzzy friends.
Quarto says the café’s menu is getting an overhaul to add more tasty treats, including bagels, pastries, and other snacks, plus new drink recipes. “Our drink menu is going to be really exciting, visually colorful drinks,” owner Katie Quarto told WoodTV. “We love to put glitter in everything, so we really want to bring that vibe into here.” Past treats have included the “Tabby Cat,” a latte featuring house-made dark chocolate, blackberry, hazelnut, and almond; the “Meow-Cha,” a vanilla matcha latte; and the “Cheshire Cat,” a lavender honey latte – among other creatively named beverages.
“Cats are scientifically proven to help reduce anxiety, depression and stress in general,” Quarto said. “So we just see it as a super relaxing, fun experience where [customers] just enjoy the company of fuzzy friends.”
Renovations are scheduled to end by April 1.
