ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Fifth year senior Mason Parris, who was the NCAA heavyweight champion, is one of the 10 finalists for the prestigious Hodge Trophy presented by the WIN Magazine. This trophy is equal to football’s Heisman Trophy and given annually to the most dominant wrestler in the country based on overall record, bonus-point percentage, quality of competition, and sportsmanship.
This award is named after Oklahoma’s legendary three-time NCAA champion Dan Hodge who was never taken down in college. He then pinned 36 of 46 opponents in that three-year span.

Parris went 33-0 this season winning the heavy weight championship earning bonus points in 64 percent of his wins with 11 falls, three technical falls, and seven major decisions. He averaged 9.7 points per match and earned 17 wins over nationally-ranked opponents going 10-0 over seven All-Americans. In the championship match, he had a 5-1 win over Penn State’s Greg Kerkvilet.
Fan voting is now taking place and is five first-place ballots towards the winner’s tally. The voting ends on Friday, March 24 as the winner will be announced at noon central time on Monday, March 27.
