ROYAL OAK, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A video surfaced on Twitter of a man dressed up as a woman and wearing thong underwear parading in front of children during a Drag Queen Story Time in Royal Oak over the weekend.
@RedTopReport caught video of a drag queen in a G-string gyrating in front of children at yesterday’s protest.

People holding rainbow flags and those protesting the event gathered near The Sidetrack Bookshop in Royal Oak on Saturday as a Drag Queen Story Time opened the book for children to hear from men dressed up as women.
A group of protestors representing the “Grand New Party,” an offshoot of the traditional Republican party which formed after the November 2022 election, gathered to voice their disapproval of the event and called it the “sexualization of children.”
Rep. Steve Carra (R-Three Rivers), chair of the Grand New Party, told Michigan News Source, “[Drag Queen Story Time] serves no educational purpose and there are further reports across this country of immoral behavior being discussed at these events. We need to be focused on raising our reading, writing, and math scores, not having drag queens with sexual agendas grooming our children.”

The owners of the bookstore appeared proud of the event’s success. The Sidetrack Bookstore, which describes itself as an “LGBTQ+, women owned” business on its Facebook page, thanked Directed by Q and lauded the “amazing day.”
State Senator Mallory McMorrow, (D-Royal Oak) who resides in the area, voiced her support of the event in addition to antagonizing Rep. Carra.
The “Grand New Party” decided to come to Royal Oak to protest a drag queen story time at one of our incredible independent book stores. Royal Oak said #HateWontWin. Loud. Hey @stevecarraMI maybe stick to your own district next time. We lead with love here. ❤️🏳️🌈 pic.twitter.com/03MnAlyfyy

Rep. Carra told Michigan News Source he was not at Drag Queen Story Time since he was in Marshall hosting a press conference. He said residents there “were concerned with the illegal creation of a Ford mega site that has dealings with the Chinese Communist Party,” Carra said, referring to the more than $700 million deal made by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Ford, and Chinese supplier CATL.
