EAST LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – In a three-game series for the right to go to the Big Ten Tournament semi-final game, #20 Michigan State won their first postseason series in 10 years with a deciding 4-2 win on Sunday night. MSU fell to Notre Dame in game one, 1-0, on Friday night and then bounced back for a game two win, 4-2, on Saturday. With the deciding game on Sunday, the Spartans came away with another 4-2 win to take the series in South Bend, Ind.

Notre Dame struck first at 4:55 in the first period by Nicolas Muller tied the game at one with 11:27 left on an assist from Erik Middendorf and Jeremy Davidson. MSU took the lead, 2-1, at 11:01 in the second period on a Jeremy Davidson goal as Muller earned a point for the assist. At 6:42 in the third period, Tiernan Shoudy found the net for the 3-1 advantage. Notre Dame scored on a power play at 16:37 to pull within one but MSU scored on an empty net when Muller recorded his second goal of the game at 18:17 for a 4-2 win.

Goalie Dylan St. Cyr stopped 37 shots and the defense blocked 22 shots.

The last time MSU won in the postseason came in 2013 with a best-of-three series win over Alaska. MSU now has 19 wins which is the most since 2011-12.

MSU will take on Minnesota on March 11 at 9:00 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
