DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Detroit finished up their five-game road trip on a high note as they held off the Washington Capitals, 3-1. The Red Wings have now won six of their last seven games and went 4-1 on their week and a half road trip to Canada, the West Coast, and finishing off in Washington D.C.
After 10 minutes of scoreless play in the first period, Robert Hagg netted his first goal of the year at 10:16 on assists from Tyler Bertuzzi and Olli Maatta. Just four minutes later, on a short hand goal, Pius Suter made it a 2-0 lead unassisted. Washington recorded their only goal at 15:57 to come within one, 2-1.

Both teams couldn’t find the goal in the second period and it was Suter that netted his 11th goal of the year and second of the game at 6:24 in the third period. In his second unassisted goal of the game, he gave Detroit an insurance goal for the 3-1 lead. After that, goalie Ville Husso had eight saves to preserve the win and finished with 26 saves in the game.
Detroit is back at home on Thursday night hosting New York at 7:00 p.m.
