DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Bolstering their pitching staff with a young arm, Detroit claimed left-hander Tyler Holton off of waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks. Holton spent most of his time last year in Triple-A Reno.

He was selected by Arizona in the ninth round of the 2018 draft and made his Major League debut in April. The ninth round pick allowed three earned runs in nine innings of relief for Arizona.

In Reno, he went 5-0 pitching in 44 2/3 innings with a 4.43 ERA striking out 43 batters and walking 17. He was designated for assignment by the Diamondback so they could make room for their new reliever in Andrew Chafin. Detroit moved Casey Mize to the 60-day injured list so Holton could be on the 40-man roster.

Holton becomes the second pitcher to be claimed by Detroit from Arizona since last year adding Edwin Uceta last month.
