According to WLNS, at least 150 students participated in the walkout, along with several staff members.
Students held signs that said “Stop the Violence.”
The initial protest lasted a half-an-hour, with some students saying they would be part of a longer walkout.
In addition, the school went into a “shelter in place” later that morning and has since been lifted. School officials did not say why the shelter in place was ordered.
This is the second such lockdown measure in as many days. On Tuesday, school officials issued a shelter in place after reports of a weapon at the school surfaced. The investigation revealed there was no threat.
On Friday night, the East Lansing Police Department (ELPD) will meet with community members and host a “listening session” regarding these events.
