ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Hunter Dickinson scored 15 points in the second half finishing with 23 points as the University of Michigan held off Minnesota, 60-56, to move to 5-3 in the Big Ten. The two teams were tied at 23 at the half before Michigan made a run half way through the second half.
“We didn’t turn the ball over and took care of the ball this game and defensively I give credit to how hard the guys played and what we worked on the past two days. Minnesota and every team is good in this league. They are capable of winning on any night,” said head coach Juwan Howard.

Dickinson led the team with 23 points and nine rebounds on 50 percent shooting as Kobe Bufkin had 12 points and Dug McDaniel 10 points. Ta’long Cooper led Minnesota with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
The first half went back and forth as Minnesota jumped out an 8-0 lead to start the game. They had a 10-point lead with 13:49 left in the half on a jumper by Jamison Battle. It was still a 10-point lead with 10:16 to go, 20-10, but Michigan finished the final 10 minutes on a 13-3 run to tie the game at 23 at the half. Dickinson hit a jumper with 39 seconds left for the first tie of the game as Michigan took the momentum into the half.
Minnesota hit a three-pointer to start the second half for a three-point lead, 26-23, but Michigan went on a 8-0 run for a five-point lead, 31-26. Joey Baker had the bucket for the five-point lead at 16:19. The game was tied twice after that at 31 and 33 with 13:42 left. Michigan answered again with six straight points and had a nine-point lead, 55-46, with 3:02 left in the game. Bufkin gave Michigan their largest lead with a jumper. Minnesota had the lead down to three, 55-52, with 35 seconds left but Michigan went 5-of-6 from the free throw line in that time to seal the win.
Michigan will next play on January 26 against Purdue University at 9:00 p.m.
