LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – There’s a new artist in Michigan! Sydney Kuipers of Forest Hills Northern High School is the winner of the 2023 Michigan State of the State art contest.

Pictured above is the winning artwork from Sydney Kuipers of Forest Hills Northern High School. It will appear on the program for Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s State of the State address on Wednesday, Jan. 25.

The art contest challenged Michigan’s K-12 students to design the cover of the upcoming 2023 State of the State program. Artists were challenged to promote the theme, “What makes Michigan strong?”

Four runner-up designs were selected as well.

Myra Sprague, Greenville Senior High School, 12th grade.
Raegan Pena, Milan High School, 10th grade.
Neal Patwardhan, Novi Meadows, 6th grade.
Delaney LeMarbe, Flushing High School, 10th grade.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer will deliver the 2023 State of the State address in the Michigan House Chambers on Wednesday, January 25 at 7:00 p.m. In addition, it will be broadcast live.
