ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan bounced back from the Friday night, 7-2, loss to no. 8 Ohio State with a 4-2 win on Saturday to earn a split in the series. No. 6 Michigan scored an insurance goal in the third period on a power player at 16:04 to make it 4-2. Goalie Erik Portillo had 37 saves on 39 shots faced and finished the series with 82 saves.
Four different players scored for Michigan in Mackie Samoskevich, Jacob Truscott, Gavin Brindley, and Rutger McGroarty. OSU scored first, though for a 1-0 lead in the first period just 18 seconds in. It wasn’t until the 7:23 mark that Samoskevich netted the tying goal on assists from Truscott and Adam Fantilli. Truscott then put UM in front, 2-0, seven minutes later at 14:22. Brindley then made it 3-1 for a two-goal lead in the second period at 15:17 but OSU pulled to within one, 3-2, at 9:00. McGroarty had the insurance goal on a power play at 16:04 in the third period as UM held off OSU, 4-2.

OSU pushed hard to the end but Portillo held off the Buckeyes. OSU had a 39-27 edge in shots but UM won the faceoff circle, 25-23.
UM heads to Minnesota next week against no. 1 Minnesota on Friday and Saturday.
