ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A rivalry on the ice continued between Ohio State and Michigan as the two top 10 teams faced each other for the 155th time. No. 8 Ohio State slipped by the No. 6 Wolverines, 7-2, in Ann Arbor on the special weekend of celebrating 100 years of Michigan hockey in a sold out Yost Ice Arena.

After a 1-1 tie in the first period, Ohio State opened up for five goals in the second period for a 6-2 lead. The Buckeyes then added one more in the third period for the 7-2 win.

Erik Portillo was in the net for Michigan as he stopped 45 of 52 shots as he collected a career-high for saves. Dylan Duke netted two goals against his brother Tyler Duke of Ohio State in their first meeting against each other.

The first period brought power play goals by each team as Michigan struck first. UM’s Duke earned the goal midair off a shot from Mackie Samoskevich as it was altered to go in at 11:42. Ohio State then scored on a power play almost five minutes later to tie it up at one (16:16). That was as close as it would be as Ohio State scored five goals in second period.

Duke added his second goal of the game in the second period at 17:31 to cut the lead to three, 5-2, on assists from Adam Fantilli and Luke Hughes.

The two teams will finish the series on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. as the 100th Anniversary Celebration comes to an end.
