DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Less than a second is all it took for Saddiq Bey to quiet the Golden State Warriors as he sank the game winning shot with one second left for the 122-119 victory. Bey answered the Warrior’s Klay Thompson shot with 2.1 seconds left that tied the game at 119. Off the right arc just beyond the three-point line, Bey took the inbounds pass and lofted it up as time expired for the win.

Bey said, “It was tough, I don’t even remember as I kind of blacked out a little bit. I had one second so I didn’t have that much time to think, so I had to shoot it so I’m just grateful it went in.”

The win split the road series to 2-2 after at a 116-104 win in Minnesota on New Year’s Eve. It also improved the Pistons to 11-30 overall.

Bojan Bogdanovic led the team with 29 points hitting five three-pointers and shooting 10-of-15 from the floor. Jalen Duren added 18 points and 11 rebounds as Bey finished with 17 points. Alec Burks followed with 15 points and then Isaiah Stewart finished gave 13 points and Jaden Ivey had 12 points.

Detroit had to act quickly after Thompson tied the game at 119 taking a timeout for an inbounds near mid-court. It took Killian Hayes, who had 13 assists in the game, almost five seconds to inbound the ball but that was enough time for Bey to break free to the right side of the arc and launch the game winning shot.

“Saddiq popped back to get open and had the presence of mind to get it off quick enough,” said head coach Dwane Casey.

The win ended Golden State’s five-game winning streak and was the first time to defeat the Warriors in three tries on their court.

Detroit ends their five-game road trip on Friday, January 6, in San Antonio at 8:00 p.m.
