DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – It was a third period to not forget for Detroit as they scored three goals finishing up 2022 with a 4-2 win over the Senators. Detroit scored goals in a two minute time period (1:33, 2:36, and 3:13) for the comeback win finishing off December winning three of their final four games.

The Senators took a 2-0 lead in the first period before Pius Suter scored in the second period to cut the lead to one, 2-1, at 8:42. He scored from just outside the left faceoff dot on an assist from Lucas Raymond. The rest of the second period went back and forth as the Senators held onto a 2-1 lead.

It was a quick start to the third period as Raymond tied the game at two (1:33) on a tip-in following a shot by Olli Maatta. Just over a minute later, Elmer Soderblom extended his score streak to four games on a pass from Joe Veleno for the 3-2 lead. Michael Rasmussen tallied the final goal at 3:13 on a wrap-around goal off a steal making it 4-2 as Detroit scored three goals in less than two minutes.

Detroit ends 2022 at 16-12-7 for 39 points and will host the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday, January 4, at 7:00 p.m. Five of their next six games will be at home in the Little Caesars Arena.
