DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Scoring 34 unanswered points after being down, 10-7, at the end of the first quarter, the Detroit Lions kept their playoff hopes alive obliterating Chicago, 41-10. Detroit finished the game clicking on all cylinders with 504 yards of total offense while holding Chicago to just nine first downs and 30 yards passing. The Lions scored on seven of their 12 possession in the game and at one point collected points on four straight possessions between the second and third quarters.

It was an all-around team effort that came together after that first quarter as Jared Goff threw for 255 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. Jamaal Williams carried the ball 22 times for 144 yards and one score as the offense had 265 yards rushing. Brock Wright only had three receptions for 13 yards but two catches were for touchdowns. D’Andre Swift also had 78 yards rushing and one touchdown.

The defense buckled down after last week’s showing and allowed just 230 yards of total offense with 200 yards rushing. Aidan Hutchinson had one interception and a fumble recovery while Alex Anzalone produced seven tackles. Josh Paschal had two sacks and four tackles.

It was a rough first quarter for the Lions as they gave up 105 yards rushing to the Bears Justin Fields. Fields led Chicago to touchdowns on their first two possessions. Chicago scored at 10:54 on a 13-yard pass for the 7-0 lead. Detroit answered going 75 yards on nine plays to tie the game as Goff found Wright for his first touchdown pass of the day from two-yards out at 6:45. Chicago followed through going 70 yards but the Detroit defense held the Bears to a 23-yard field goal. That put a surging Chicago team ahead, 10-7, with 2:26 left in the first quarter.

After a three-and-out in their first possession of the second quarter, Detroit scored on their next four drives as they took over the game. Three touchdowns and field goal followed as Swift gave the Lions the lead, 14-10, on a 17-yard run with 14:24 in the second quarter. On the next drive, Wright caught at nine-yard touchdown pass for his second score of the day at the 4:16 mark. James Houston forced a fumble on the Bears next drive after three plays as Hutchinson recovered the ball at the 50-yardline. Eight plays later,  Michael Badgley nailed a 23-yard field goal as Detroit moved ahead, 24-10. With just 17 seconds left in the half, Chicago took over and on Fields first pass of the drive Hutchinson picked off his third ball of the year at the Detroit 35-yard line to end the half.

The second half was dominated by Detroit as they scored 17 points. The first two possessions of were touchdowns for Detroit as they moved the score to 38-10. Williams had a two-yard run at 11:38 and then Swift caught a 21-yard pass on a 92-yard drive for the 28-point lead. The offense slowed down after that point and finished the game with a Badgley 41-yard field goal at 2:40 in the fourth quarter as the final score, 41-10.

It now comes down to the final game of the season in Green Bay next Sunday to see who will make the playoffs.
