KALAMAZOO, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Jason Polin netted his fifth hat trick of the season for Western Michigan as they cruised to an 8-2 win over Ferris State University in the Great Lakes Invitational in Grand Rapids. This is the fourth MacInnes Cup as the Great Lakes Invitational Champions for WMU.

Polin, forward Ryan McAllister, defensemen Aidan Fulp, and goaltender Cameron Rowe all were named to the GLI All-Tournament team.

After Polin’s hat trick, Chad Hillebrand had two goals and an assist as Luke Grainger, Fulp, and Max Sasson all scored a goal. Rowe recorded 28 saves on the night and held Ferris State scoreless on their two penalty kill situations.

It was a close game after the first period as WMU had just a 2-1 lead from goals by Hillebrand and Polin. Polin then scored back-to-back goals in the second period at 3:02 and 10:51 to make it 4-1. Grainger and Fulp scored at 11:18 and 12:25 as WMU took over the game, 6-1.

FSU collected their second goal at 14:24 in the third making it 6-2 but Sasson (8:25) and Hillebrand (9:02) scored back-to-back in less than a minute to put the game away 8-2.

WMU is off until January 13-14 when they travel to the University of North Dakota for two games.
