ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – This week the Big Ten announced their awards and Michigan running back Blake Corum was named the Chicago Tribune Silver Football winner. This award goes to the Big Ten’s most valuable player for all positions voted on by the head coaches.

Michigan has now won the award in back-to-back years as Aidan Hutchinson was the 2021 award winner as the Wolverines now have produced 19 winners. It is the first time since 2003-04 that Michigan has produced back-to-back winners when Chris Perry and Braylon Edwards won the award.

Before his injury vs. Illinois, Corum was in the running for the Heisman Trophy. Despite the injury, he should have still been in New York for the award as he led Michigan to the point where they were at going into the Ohio State game. He finished the year with 247 carries for 1,463 yards which is eighth in the NCAA. It is the most by any running back since his coach Mike Hart did it in 2006 with 1,562 yards. He completed the task of the 1,400 yards without carrying the ball in the fourth quarter in seven games this year.

This year he was also a consensus All-American, the Big Ten Amech-Dayne Running Back of the Year and an finalist for the Doak Walker Award and the Walter Camp National Player of the Year award. He has 19 touchdowns which is seventh in the nation and is 10th in the nation for rushing yards per game at 121.9.

He was one of the major reasons Michigan is 13-0 and playing in the College Football Playoffs. He helped the Wolverines to back-to-back Big Ten titles.
