EAST LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Punter Bryce Baringer has become a consensus All-American for Michigan State University in a season that wasn’t what they expected. He earned five All-American awards and to be consensus a player needs to earn All-American in half of the official All-American teams. He is just the second punter in program history to earn the consensus award and the 29th player to have this honor at MSU.

He earned All-American first team status by the Walter Camp Foundation, Associated Press (AP), and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). He was then an All-American second team selection in The Sporting News and Football Writers Association of America (FWAA).

Baringer is a finalist for the Ray Guy Award and leads the FBS in punting with a school record 49.0 yard average. MSU is first in nation for net punting at 45.5 yards as Baringer has just four touchbacks putting 22 punts within the 20-yard line and eight inside the 10-yard line. He posted 24 punts that were 50-plus yards with 10 being 60-yards or more.

Winning the Ray Guy National Punter of the Week award twice this year, he was the Big Ten’s Eddleman-Fields Punter of the Year earning first team honors. He finishes his career averaging 46.0 yards per punt which is a Big Ten and school record.

He will have the chance to play one more time as a collegiate player in the Reese’s Senior Bowl.
