BIG RAPIDS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Cruising to their second straight NCAA Division II National Championship, Ferris State University overtook the game, 41-14, against the Colorado School of the Mines. FSU jumped out to a 27-0 lead at the half and never looked back.

A well balanced game for the Bulldogs of 214 yards rushing and 218 yards passing led to 485 yards of offense. Marcus Taylor rushed for 103 yards but Carson Gulker had three rushing touchdowns. CJ Jefferson had the other touchdown as FSU produced four rushing touchdowns on the day. Mylik Mitchell passed for 170 yards going 14-of-18. All the offensive touchdowns were on the ground for FSU.
The FSU defense shut down Harlon Hill Trophy winner John Matocha allowing just 208 yards passing and recording two interceptions. CSOM only had four rushing yards on the day and gave up six sacks. Jordan Jones produced two sacks while Ian Hall had 1.5 sacks.
Gulker made it 7-0 at the 11:21 mark in the first quarter. FSU then scored 20 points in the second quarter to run away with the game. Eddie Jewett hit back-to-back field goals in for the 13-0 lead. He made a 33-yard field goal with 13:16 left and then had a 22-yard make on the next possession as the clock read 8:56. Jefferson then recorded his only touchdown on a 19-yard run just before the half with 32 seconds left. The defense made it 27-0 as time expired as McCloud returned a 25-yard interception for the big lead.
The only score in the third came from CSOM on a 10-yard run to make it 27-7. Gulker started the fourth quarter at 12:12 with a one-yard rush to move the score to 33-7. CSOM had a14-yard pass for a touchdown with 6:24 left in the game for their final score, 33-14. With 4:24 left, Gulker punched in his third touchdown of the day from six-yards out for the 41-14 win.
