EAST LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Tied 35-35 all at halftime, Michigan State only allowed 23 points in the second half as they took a 67-58 win over Penn State to even their record at 1-1 in the Big Ten. MSU is now 6-4 overall and PSU stands at 0-1 and 6-3 on the year.

A.J. Hoggard led the team with 23 points while Joey Hauser added a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Tyson Walker recorded 14 points. Seth Lundy was the leading scorer for Penn State. MSU out rebounded PSU, 40-34, and held them to just 34% shooting from the floor and 29% at the three-point line. MSU made 43% of their shots and were 42% from the arc.

At the start of the second half, PSU took a four-point lead, 39-35, scoring the first four points in 1:15. Hauser cut the lead to one, 41-40, at the 17:44 mark but neither team hit any shots for the next three minutes. PSU made a free throw at 15:52 to push the lead to two, 42-40, but Hoggard canned a three-pointer almost a minute later (15:08) for a one-point lead, 43-42. The two teams swapped the lead several times over the next 10 minutes as MSU had a two-point lead, 56-54, with 5:07 in the game. Over the next four minutes, MSU had a 8-2 run for an eight point lead, 64-56, on two free throws from Hoggard. PSU came within six making two of their own free throws, 64-58, but MSU made three-of-four from the line in the final 42 seconds for the win, 67-58.

PSU had as large as a 10-point lead in the first half, 16-6 (12:31), before MSU slowly chipped away at the lead. With 6:43 left to play, Hauser hit a jumper to come within five, 24-19. Jade Akins then hit a three-pointer with 4:57 in the half to pull within one, 25-24. PSU made it a four-point lead, 33-29, with 2:14 on the clock but MSU went on a 6-0 run for a 35-33 lead on two Hoggard free throws. PSU then hit a layup with 30 seconds left in the half to tie it at 35 to enter halftime.

MSU will host Brown University on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in the Brelin Center.
