DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – It was Detroit’s defense that was the winner on Sunday holding Green Bay to just nine points and picking off All-Pro quarterback Aaron Rodgers three times. The win breaks Detroit’s five-game losing streak and gives them their second win of the year.

“We complimented each other today. We played complimentary football and at the end of the day I was proud of our team. I feel we are going in the right direction. I know the wins are not there right now but we did just get one,” says head coach Dan Campbell.

Rookies Kerby Joseph and Aidan Hutchinson shined in the win as Joseph had two of the three interceptions. Hutchinson gained the third interception of the game at the goal line stopping any threat of a Packers score. The defense also stopped the Green Bay momentum to end the game on a fourth-and-10 on the Lion’s 17-yard line.

After a scoreless first quarter, Detroit found the end zone with 15 seconds left in the half. Jared Goff threw a one-yard pass to Shane Zylastra. Jamaal Williams then converted the two-point conversion for the 8-0 halftime lead.

With 4:53 left in the third quarter, Green Bay finally scored on a 20-yard pass from Rodgers to Allen Lazard. They went for the two-point conversion but it failed as Detroit kept a two-point lead, 8-6. Just nine seconds into the fourth quarter, Goff threw for another touchdown as James Mitchell made it in from three-yards out for the 15-6 lead. Green Bay hit a 25-yard field goal with 6:56 to play but then was shut down with four incomplete passes on the Lion’s 17-yard line with 42 seconds left ending any threat to score.

Goff finished with 137 yards passing and two touchdowns as Williams had 81 yards rushing.

Detroit is at Chicago on Sunday starting at 1:00 p.m.
