LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – During the final weekend before the primary election, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and GOP challenger Tudor Dixon have been campaigning hard throughout Michigan.
Whitmer highlighted some of her contributions as governor at a rally in Oakland County at The Crofoot venue downtown over the weekend in front of about 100 people.

“This is a high-stakes fight,” Whitmer said at the rally, “This is a high-stake election. I will stay in this arena. I’ll take all the stuff they throw my way. (If) they knock me down, I’ll jump right back on my feet.”
After her address Whitmer remarked to reporters that the state needed a “problem solver, not a culture warrior” according to the Detroit News. Of the many differentiating opinions about policy, Whitmer has continued to highlight her views about abortion, and her desire to resist those would oppose proposal 3.
“Access to reproductive health care saves lives. That’s why I have been fighting like hell to ensure that every Michigander has control over their own body and can start a family if and when they are ready,” Whitmer said in a statement.
Whitmer’s final campaign event on Monday will feature support from Magic Johnson in East Lansing.
Dixon by contrast has focused more on the lack of educational support in a post-pandemic Michigan, and has strongly disagreed with many of the teaching curriculums and books in Michigan which prioritize teaching sex and gender topics to elementary and middle school students.
She hosted five campaign events Monday, beginning with a meet and greet in Adrian and ending the day with a final welcome home rally in Grand Rapids according to her campaign schedule.

“Our message is clear: we want to get our kids back on track, fund & support our police, and encourage business opportunities in Michigan,” Dixon said in a tweet.
Dixon further clarified her message in an op-ed over the weekend which outlined her approaches to the economy, restoring small businesses, the state income tax, the rise in crime, and education among other topics.
Former Democrat Tulsi Gabbard has joined Dixon among other Republican candidates in campaigning.
“When you listen to what Tudor Dixon is talking to people about, what she’s hearing from people, it doesn’t get any more real than fighting for your kids, fighting for your jobs, fighting for our economy, fighting for safety and security, it does not get any more real than that.” Gabbard said in an interview, “Which again goes to show how out of touch Barack Obama is and frankly Gretchen Whitmer as well.”
