EAST LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Setting a single season program record for wins at 16, Michigan State held off Nebraska in the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament, 2-1. It will be the first time that MSU will play for a Big Ten Tournament Championship in program history.

“It’s great to win this game. After every one of these wins, I always hear about how we set some sort of new record or did something for the first time. We are going to keep riding that wave. It’s a great feeling,” says head coach Jeff Hosler.

Courtney Koehler scored the go-ahead goal in the second half with 24 minutes left to play (66th minute) on an assist from Ranya Senhaji. Senhaji out played her defender and sent a root-footed shot to the back of the net to go up, 2-1. In the first half, she had he assist on the first goal of the game by Camryn Evans at the 22nd mark. Nebraska tied up the game in the 36th minute as it was 1-1 at the half.

Lauren Kozal had five saves in the win. She posted a save in the 70th minute right after MSU went up 2-1 and then in the 89th minute before the buzzer went off preserving the win.

MSU will now face #6 seed Penn State on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the championship game.
