DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Bojan Bogdanovic and Cade Cunningham combined for more than half of Detroit’s points as the Pistons came up shy of victory, 118-113, against Atlanta. Bogdanovic scored 33 points, making six three-pointers, while Cunningham added 26 points with eight rebounds and six assists.

Detroit made 46 percent of their shots from the floor and 14 three-pointers (43%) but Atlanta made almost 50 percent of their shots and was 80% from the line. Atlanta also out rebounded Detroit, 46-40, with 36 defensive rebounds.

It came down to the fourth quarter and the final six minutes as the game was tied at 100. In almost two minutes, Atlanta went on an 8-0 run to take the 108-100 lead with 3:55 left in the game. Detroit responded with a 6-1 run to pull within three, 109-106, as Bogdanovic nailed two three-pointers to keep the Pistons in it. With 1:23 to go, Bogdanovic hit his third three-pointer in less than two minutes and was fouled converting a four-point play to come within one, 111-110. A Detroit foul led to two made free throws by Atlanta that led to a 5-0 run and six-point lead with 20.3 seconds left.

In that final minute, Detroit’s Saddiq Bey missed two free throws after Atlanta pushed their lead to three, 113-100, just 13 seconds prior on two made free throws. Cunningham drove the lane with 24 seconds left trying to cut the five-point lead, 115-110, but his shot was blocked and then Detroit fouled. Atlanta made one of two free throws extending the lead to six, 116-110, with 20 seconds left. Bogdanovic canned his fourth three-pointer in the last three minutes as Detroit was within three points 116-113 as the clock read 16.8 seconds left. Detroit fouled quickly but the Hawks made both free throws with 5.7 seconds left to take the game, 118-113.

Detroit will play Atlanta again on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
