IRONWOOD, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Snowmobilers in the western U.P. received some bad news from the Michigan DNR this week.

In a press release, the DNR informed riders that Trail No. 2, which officials cited as “an important stretch of snowmobile trail” in Gogebic County, will likely close this winter following a change in ownership at Snow River Mountain Resort.

The closure would eliminate trail access between Wakefield and Ironwood, affecting the communities of Bessemer and Ironwood most directly.

The DNR and local officials are looking for a reroute.
