MENOMINEE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The papermill fire in Upper Peninsula’s Menominee County has grabbed the attention of Lansing.
On Thursday, Governor Gretchen Whitmer declared a state of emergency to assist with responses to the industrial fire that began on October 6.

Some of the help needed from the state is fighting the still burning fire, and assistance in making sure that water run-off from fire suppression efforts do not threaten local water supplies.
By declaring a state of emergency, Gov. Whitmer has made available all state resources in cooperation with local response and recovery efforts in the designated area.
