LANSING, Mich. (MIRS News) – The Conservation Voters of Michigan PAC announced a new TV ad against Republican Attorney General candidate Matt DePerno at the same time End Citizens United called him out for a 2020 “election fraud defense fund.”
The ad, titled “Running From The Law,” is part of the $3.5 million independent expenditure campaign that the CVM PAC announced last Thursday, which is aimed at electing and re-electing clean water and public health champions in Michigan.

The anti-DePerno ad comes after the AG candidate was added to the “2022 Dirty Dozen,” a list of 12 candidates running for state offices that have been deemed anti-environmental by the LCV Victory Fund, national affiliate SuperPAC of the Conservation Voters.
The ad references the ongoing investigation by Muskegon County Prosecutor D.J. Hilson into allegations that DePerno and others tampered with voting machines, which DePerno denied during a radio interview on Michigan’s Big Show.
It also references a March Bridge Michigan article reporting that DePerno was fired in 2005 from a law firm for overcharging clients, and alleged that he was investigated by the Attorney Grievance Commission for unethical conduct.
Bob Allison, deputy director for the Michigan League of Conservation Voters, said DePerno is the “exact opposite of what Michigan needs in an Attorney General. He was investigated for unethical conduct, fired from a law firm for overcharging clients and faces five years in prison if convicted for tampering with voting machines.”
The league also referenced comments made by DePerno that he has committed to ending the state’s lawsuit against Enbridge and the Line 5 oil pipeline if elected.
End Citizens United, Let America Vote also recently issued a statement referencing DePerno’s 2005 departure from his law firm and allegations that he “padded” client billings.

The group also questioned DePerno’s “election fraud defense fund” which he created following the 2020 election in an attempt to help overturn results.
The fund collected $389,000 in donations, and End Citizens United said DePerno still refuses to say where the money went.
The DePerno campaign did not respond to a request for comment by 8 p.m.
