ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Legendary Michigan softball coach Carol Hutchins will be given the WeCOACH Lifetime Achievement Award announced by the organization on Monday. Hutchins retired from Michigan in early August after a 38 seasons coaching for the Wolverines.
This award is presented by WeCOACH to the woman in sports who succeed at the highest levels in their respective careers, while also displaying an unwavering commitment, pioneering spirit and trailblazing leadership to empower and pave the way for girls and women in all sports and levels to breakthrough for many generations to come. She will be recognized with Nikke Franke (Temple women’s fencing coach) and Jodi Manore (head girls’ volleyball coach at Bedford HS).
Hutchins is already a member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Hall of Fame inducted in 2006. She has been given 18 Big Ten Conference Coach of the Year awards, eight NFCA Regional Coach of the Year awards, twice been the NFCA National Coach of the Year, and in 2016 she was the inaugural recipient of the espnW’s Pat Summitt Coaching award.
She retired with a 1,707-555-5 record and is the winningest coach for any sport at Michigan. She went to the Softball World Series 12 times winning the 2005 National Championship.
She will receive the award on Friday, December 16, in Omaha, Neb., at the 2022 BreakThrough Summitt.
