BIG RAPIDS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The top two teams in NCAA Division II come from the State of Michigan as Ferris State University ranked number one followed by Grand Valley State University at number two. Ferris State is the reigning national champions and have kept the top spot all season at 4-0. GVSU is now 5-0 and has moved up from fifth place in the preseason poll.

FSU starts GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) play this week at #25 Saginaw Valley State. They are coming off a 38-7 win and the defense is only allowing 8.75 points per game.

“We know we have our hands full this week,” says FSU head coach Tony Annese. “It is the same process for us week to week in locking in on one opponent a week and we have been able to do that for a long time. Our guys are pretty gritty when it comes to the next opponent.”

GVSU started the year off at number five and have moved into the number two spot. They started off GLIAC play with a 29-10 win over then #17 Saginaw Valley State in the Battle of the Valleys. The Lakers defense is only giving up 11.6 points per game and scoring 40.6 pongs per game.

These two teams will square off against each other on Saturday, October 15, in Big Rapids, Mich., at FSU.
