DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – The North American International Auto Show, otherwise known as the Detroit Auto Show to most people, is firing on all cylinders after the city’s first auto show since 2019 which was halted because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The indoor/outdoor event will take place from Saturday, September 17th through Sunday the 25th and feature activities on land, water and in the air. The event will take place inside Huntington Place (formerly Cobo Center) with other activities in Hart Plaza and at some of Detroit’s parks.

Highlights will include showcasing Fred Flintstone’s prehistoric “Flintmobile,” showing the world’s first electric monster truck and displaying the world’s largest rubber duck.
The auto show will offer many family-friendly events including dinosaur encounters with a Jurassic walk-thru experience with more than 80 life-size dinosaurs and interactive activities. There will also be an animatronic dinosaur band and realistic dinosaur babies roaming around.
Fred Flintstone’s original dinosaur-era car, built by George Barris for the Universal Studios’ 1994 feature motion picture “The Flintstones” will be on display as will Bigfoot #20, the world’s first battery-powered monster truck.
Looking to the future, the auto show will also have an “Air Mobility Experience” featuring flight demonstrations and displays by six mobility companies originating from five countries. This includes electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft to amphibious sport planes to hoverboards and jet suits.
And don’t forget the world’s largest rubber duck. It will be on display in Hart Plaza throughout the auto show. The much-loved duck is 61 feet high and weighs more than 30,000 lbs.
There will also be a huge gaming lab in a unique 26-foot climate-controlled theater-style arcade on wheels featuring five 50-inch TVs equipped with PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch with hundreds of games to choose from.
And of course, there are cars. Visitors will have an opportunity to comparison shop from hundreds of vehicles and experience some of these products through ride activations, including active tracks inside the Huntington Place convention center.

This auto show continues to be one of the most influential annual automotive events in the world – a showcase for emerging technologies. They plan to have a media day on September 14th where automakers and industry suppliers will debuting their new products and technologies.
Although some in the industry say that the day of the auto show making media splashes are over, the Ford folks plan to reveal their new seventh generation Mustang at the show. It remains to be seen if that Mustang will be an EV or have an internal combustion engine. It will be the last vehicle debut during media day.
President Joe Biden plans on attending the big event to highlight EVs and EV policies. The White House said he’ll be traveling to Detroit on Wednesday, September 14th, media day, when most officials and dignitaries make appearances.
